We Power Access to Health and Human Services

Maryland Information Network (MdInfoNet) is a public-benefit 501(c)(3) nonprofit and the state-designated administrator of the 211 system. We provide the infrastructure that powers access to health and human service, connecting people to trusted information, partners to technology that aligns and coordinates systems, and decision-makers to statewide data and insights.

Our Mission

To use information and technology to connect Marylanders to the health and human services they need to achieve a more stable life for themselves and their families.

Maryland's Health and Human Services

Maryland Information Network was created to solve a structural need for 211, and that need continues to exist across many areas of Maryland's health and human services landscape.

Maryland's human services ecosystem is complex, involving thousands of programs, dozens of funders, and multiple systems, and we help those systems connect with each other.

Connecting Systems

As Maryland faces growing and more complex needs - from mental health to housing to emergency preparedness - its ability to respond more effectively depends on how well its systems are connected, informed, and make an impact.

Our platforms make connection possible, ensuring Maryland's system can:

  • Find each other.
  • Work together.
  • Respond equitably to the people they serve.

Our Role

At Maryland Information Network, we organize the data, infrastructure, and partnerships that create transformative opportunities for people and communities across Maryland.

We connect agencies and people, helping organizations with:

  • Access to critical information.
  • Connections that create impact.
  • Data transformed into direction.
  • Systems aligned through partnership.

We Turn...

Information Into Access

Access Into Action

Action Into Insight

Our Story

Our founding purpose is to provide the governance, standards, and coordination ensuring consistent access to health and human services across all jurisdictions, regardless of where someone lives or calls from.

Through the years, legislation has paved the way for Maryland Information Network, a nonprofit, to administer Maryland's 211 system.

2004

Recognition of Need

HB981 establishes 211 as the official three-digit number for health and human services referrals in Maryland. While the state recognized the need for a centralized access system, organizational governance remains undefined.

2010

Creation of the Infrastructure

HB693 authorizes the formation of a nonprofit office to administer the 211 system. This legislation creates Maryland Information Network (MdInfoNet).

2011

Nonprofit Status

Maryland Information Network gains 501(c)(3) status to begin coordinating 211 infrastructure and standards statewide.

2020

Governance Consolidation

HB669 transfers oversight of 211 from the Maryland Health and Human Services Referral Board to Maryland Information Network. This legislation laid the groundwork for MdInfoNet's broader infrastructure development.

2024

State Designation Reaffirmed

Maryland Information Network becomes the official administrator of 211 Maryland. Legislation codifies MdInfoNet's role in certifying call centers, administering system-wide standards, and ensuring consistent access for all Marylanders.
